According to reports, before setting the girl on fire on Friday, the accused and his henchmen thrashed the girl's parents during a hearing at the village panchayat.

On the night of the incidence, the girl was alone at her home, as everyone else had gone to attend a marriage function.
Neighbors heard the girl crying for help and rescued her, taking her to the hospital, Barnwal said.
