It's always been suspected that Homeland would soon be wrapping up, and the show's Emmy winning star confirmed that the upcoming eighth season will be its last - at least in its original incarnation.

US TV star Claire Danes, who plays the protagonist - CIA officer Carrie Mathison - in the massively popular series Homeland just confirmed that the show will wrap with the next season, reports news agency ANI. Danes said: "You just feel frightful".

Although she feels "ready" to leave, she is "really conflicted" about her departure. "She's a lot, this Carrie-freakin" Mathison character.

"So I was pregnant when I did that sex scene", Danes told Stern following her announcement.

Claire Danes is pregnant with baby No. 2. "I was filming quite a lot but just inadvertently, like, falling asleep all the time".

The New York native has been promoting season seven Homeland but she also revealed that the hit series will end after season eight although Showtime has yet to confirm that.

In constrat to Danes's statements of the show ending, a representative for Showtime said, "The network has not made a decision beyond season eight", according to The Wrap.

She explained: "I mean, I'll be ready". "I face-planted onto this crocheted bag in-between takes", she recalled.

"It was intense!" she continued.

"I'll be ready", Danes said, asked about her thoughts on the series' impending end.

The actress and her husband, Hugh Dancy, are already parents to 5-year-old son Cyrus. I was like, 'No, I wasn't up on a coke binge all night!' You just feel like you're a derelict (vagrant) or something.

The Homeland star also gushed about married life with Dancy.
