"Throughout the investigation, it became quickly evident to us that this was not a random act", Faughnan said of the homicide, adding "it's a distinct possibility" the suspect is still armed and risky.
Faughnan said while there now is no "active threat" to the campus, additional police patrols were to be maintained overnight.
Souza was a freshman majoring in engineering who graduated past year from Blind Brook High School in Rye Brook, New York. He was 19 years old. This had been the second killing of students there in five weeks, grieving and departing the campus tense. They described the suspect as a light-skinned male wearing dark trousers and a dark, hooded sweatshirt.
"As someone who was a student until a few months ago, and someone who is still a part of the BU community, it's tough to hear about something like this happening on campus", Taylor said.
Classes were canceled on Monday as state and campus police spent the day searching the campus for evidence and the suspect. "I'm absolutely sure we'll do that again".
The school is offering counseling services for students, faculty and staff.
