Three law enforcement officers were shot while serving a warrant in central Georgia Friday morning, one fatally, officials say.
The Locust Grove officer who was killed had been on the force for about five years, said Henry County Sheriff Keith McBrayer.
The GBI said it has identified the suspect, but is withholding his name pending notification of his family.
Two Henry County sheriff's deputies and one Locust Grove police officer were shot at the Hawthorne in Linden Park in the town, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. A Locust Grove officer then arrived on the scene to assist. Both were wearing bulletproof vests, but the deputy in serious condition was shot below the vest.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident. Two deputies also were shot and wounded.

The neighbor told Fernandes that she thought the gunshots were firecrackers until she saw all the first responders descend on Saint Francis Court.
"Trying to make an arrest, there was an altercation", he said. They turned away people who don't live in the neighborhood.
The television station said the incident occurred in a residential community in Locust Grove, a city about 30 miles southeast of Atlanta.
Yellow police tape cordoned off a section of one home's front yard.
"You never know what's going to happen when you take someone into custody", he added.
