New California declares 'independence' from California, hopes to become 51st state

The founders of the state of New California took the first steps to what they hope will eventually lead to statehood, CBS Sacramento is reporting.

"The new state, as envisioned, would exclude parts of California along the coastline from Orange north to Napa counties; New California would include all other parts of California, including San Diego County, leaving the coastal stretch as California".

L.A. County alone generated nearly a quarter of California's tax revenue in 2013, and Silicon Valley (San Mateo and Santa Clara counties) generated 17 percent of state income tax revenue.

The Post reports past proposals sought to create six new states and one to combine parts of California and OR to make a new state called Jefferson. His proposed state would give greater representation to California's rural areas, as opposed to the urban and more left-wing coast that Preston said represents bonds of tyranny.

'New California' declares independence, wants to break off from rest of state to form new one

Preston, a Yuba City native, in Northern California, wants to create the nation's 51st state because he believes the rural counties of California are underrepresented by the Legislature in a fundamentally unfixable way.

It's true. A group named "New California" declared its independence from California on Monday. The state is seeing an influx of people aged 34 and under, but that's more than offset by the loss of people in all age groups from 35 up. California is a Democratic stronghold, with the party holding 80 of the state's 120 legislative seats.

It's really awesome that it doesn't matter if you're liberal or conservative, or whatever.

Meanwhile, super rich guy Tim Draper was cleared by the Office of the California Secretary of State back in October to begin collecting signatures for a different proposal, which would divvy up the most populous state in the union into three sections. They intend to start working on the plan with the state legislature in about 10 to 18 months. As the New York Post reports, there have been other efforts to separate the Sunshine State in the past and it always failed.
