"The Extraordinary Summit has been called by the President of Turkey in his capacity as the Chair of the OIC Summit".

The Summit will be preceded by the Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting, which will be attended by Foreign Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif.

Pakistan's delegation is headed by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, with several of his top officials in tow.

Speaking in Istanbul on Sunday 10 December President Erdogan said he explained to the OIC leaders that the USA recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital violates the worldwide law, diplomacy and humanity. Leaders from countries including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iran, Pakistan, Malaysia, Tunisia and Indonesia, among others, are expected to attend the Istanbul summit on Wednesday. He instructed the Department of State to start preparations for moving the USA embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. It insists that Jerusalem is the "eternal and indivisible" capital of Israel.

Abbas arrived in Istanbul this evening to take part in the emergency summit of the OIC, which will be held on Wednesday in the presence of 57 world leaders and members in the organization.

The conference comes just days after Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met with European Union foreign ministers in Brussels, amid warnings by most European countries-including France, Britain and Germany-that President Trump's decision could have a long-lasting negative impact on the Middle East.

The global community does not recognize the Israeli annexation of East Jerusalem, a holy site for three religions, and believes its status should be determined based on an agreement with the Palestinians, who seek to create their own state with the capital in the Holy City.
