The royal family's thrilled with Prince Harry's engagement to American actress Meghan Markle.

Harry and Markle kept their relationship fairly secret until the prince proved his loyalty by blasting the hateful comments being directed towards his new love.

The two were rumored to be planning a "non-traditional wedding" - unlike the lavishly royal wedding where Prince William and Kate Middleton tied the knot.

The wedding is expected to take place in spring 2018, with May considered the likeliest date for the nuptials. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for both parents.

However, writer Sally Bedell Smith, who has written a number of biographies on the royal family told Vanity Fair that Queen Elizabeth has an open-mind when it comes to the right match.

Ms Markle said she was not prepared for the level of attention their relationship would get.

In 2011, she married film producer Trevor Engelson but they divorced two years later.
