At least 14 people are feared drowned in a boat mishap in Krishna river at Ibrahimpatnam near Vijayawada Sunday evening. In the mishap, around 9 persons have been confirmed dead while 17 more are still missing.
An official said, the boat was making a trip from Punnami Ghat, Bhavanipuram, to Pavitra Sangamam, Ferry village.
The boat was navigating the Krishna river.
According to police, 30 people, who were on picnic party on the occasion Karthika Masam, hired a boat operated by a private company.

National Disaster Response Force personnel were pressed into service to launch rescue operations, but these were hampered with the sunset.
Three bodies were recovered from the river while search was on for others.
The boat exceeded its maximum carrying capacity of 24.
When contacted, a Simple Water Sports representative claimed that they hadn't overcrowded the boat and there were only 20 passengers on the boat.
Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the incident and directed the authorities to intensify rescue operations.
