The swearing in of the new ministers in the reshuffle will take place at around 10:00 am on Sunday, a top government official said today.

In light of the imminent reshuffling, several Cabinet ministers were asked to resign as well.

Apart from Rudy, the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Uma Bharti, Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation minister, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh and minister of state Sanjeev Balyan have stepped down.

ANI quoted Rudy on Friday as saying that his resignation was the Centre's "decision. perogative ".

In fact, Bharti said that she was not in a position to clarify her status and only party chief Amit Shah could speak on the issue. Here is the list of ministers who resigned and those who offered to resign.

News reports said his ministry is expected to go to NItin Gadkari.

The assembly elections in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh next year could also play a factor in the choice of inductions made by the BJP regime. Instead, as a senior BJP leader pointed out, it will be extensive, "with an emphasis on performance and also keeping in mind the party's strategy for almost a dozen elections to state assemblies that are due over the next year in the run up to the all important Lok Sabha polls in 2019".

If AIADMK eventually decides to join the government, a strong possibility, P Venugopal and V Maitreyan, may be the likely faces of the southern party in the Cabinet.

"He might appoint anyone and remove anyone and change any portfolios but will make a zero difference because this is the prime minister who believes in the complete concentration of power", Sharma told reporters here.

With the Nitish Kumar-led JD (U) also likely to join the government, its leaders RCP Singh, who is also JD (U)'s parliamentary party leader in the Rajya Sabha, and Santosh Kumar are the likely picks from the new NDA ally. This cabinet reshuffle could be an occasion for Modi to give a message to the nation that he cares for performance and merit.

Yesterday, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had hinted of new Defence Minister likely to be appointed soon when he said that he may not shoulder the additional responsibility of Defence Ministry for long. Exit of 76-year-old Kalraj Mishra as minister nearly seems a fait accompli. "Key ministries are without Cabinet Ministers for more than three years, which has never happened before".

The Congress leader claimed the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) had "from day one virtually been done away with", even though, he said, it existed on paper. So far, only one of them - Almora MP Ajay Tamta - has got the representation in the Union Cabinet. He is now minister for medium and small enterprises.
