The Magpies managed to secure a 2-1 victory over the Potters on Saturday, with Lascelles once again bagging the victor after the defender also notched up the decisive goal in a 1-0 win over Swansea City. "He's been a great player for us so far".
Much was made of the Scottish attacker's decision to join the north east outfit last summer, with the versatile attacker leaving Premier League side Bournemouth to move down to the Championship.
But Lascelles, who headed the victor from a Ritchie corner at Swansea, did the same again on 68 minutes to earn the praise of his manager.
"But it wasn't just the goal, it was how they got the corner, that was sloppy from us as well".
"We have to be honest with ourselves and look at that one today and make sure we don't concede many more like that".
Apparently, everyone gives their absolute best as they compete for playing minutes, with Benitez a rewarder of hard work as opposed to having favourites.More news: Top House Tax Writer Says Overhaul Framework Coming Week of September 25
"Matt Ritchie's deliveries are unbelievable, I feel like I can get a few goals this season with his crosses, especially when teams are marking zonal as well".
"There are a lot of positives to take from that game and I feel like we probably should have scored a few more goals than we did".
"Of course people want you to sign players for £25million and bring in big names - everybody wants to do that, but we're working with what we've got".
"The lad [Lascelles ] scored against Swansea the other week as well, so we'd talked about his threat".
"I think if we had drawn that game, it would have felt like a loss, because of the amount of chances we had".
"Last week (against Swansea), I managed to get myself into a good area and I was disappointed I didn't score in the first half".
