Kamaljeet Kaur, who owns Handy Variety in Watertown with her husband Gurinder Singh says she was getting ready to come to work Thursday morning when her husband told her of their stroke of luck. Overnight, it had mistakenly announced the winning ticket was sold at a shop in Watertown, just outside Boston.

Massachusetts Lottery Executive Director Michael Sweeney said officials were manually recording the names of the retailers that sold the winning ticket and transcribed it incorrectly.

"This location has had some big ones", he said in front of the Montgomery Street station.

Bolduc's store found out that they sold the winning numbers in the $758.7 million jackpot around 8 a.m.

When asked how the business would celebrate the occasion, Bolduc said the family business is already celebrating its 100-year anniversary.

Massachusetts State Lottery officials originally reported that the ticket was sold at a different store, but later explained the mistake was due to human error. It was the only ticket that won the jackpot, the largest grand prize won by a single lottery ticket in US history. Sweeney issued an apology for the confusion created by the error, but said lottery staff remained thrilled that a jackpot winning ticket and two $1 million winning tickets were sold in MA - one of those at the Watertown location.

People on Twitter were quick to reference Steve Harvey's Miss Universe mix-up in 2015 and February's Oscars gaffe. For the current jackpot, the cash prize would be $480 million.

Kurland said, "She's now one of the world's wealthiest people and she has to start acting like it".

With drawings being held twice a week, Powerball is played in 44 states plus Washington, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, all of which collectively oversee the game. Your chance of winning is roughly comparable to being that one lucky person out of the entire population, with everyone else losing. Around 10 million other lottery tickets won the prizes of more than $135 million.
