On the other hand, he added: "All along, Boston has believed it was clear in its assessment of Thomas' physical status and that the information was communicated to the Cavaliers in the conversations before Tuesday's trade".

For the Celtics' part, they would not want to give up Irving.

The Celtics and Cavs agreed to a blockbuster trade last week primarily centered around All-Star guard Kyrie Irving going to Boston in exchange for a package of players and a pick highlighted by Isaiah Thomas.

That idea, not surprisingly, doesn't sound great to the Celtics. Although, Yahoo Sports' Chris Mannix has said that the Celtics have drawn a line in the sand in the Kyrie Irving negotiations, and they're completely unwilling to trade Tatum, Brown or any more first round picks.

The deadline to report and submit to a physical for the players involved in the trade is 10 a.m. ET Wednesday, and the deadline to pass the physical is 10 a.m. ET Thursday, per league rules.

The #Cleveland Cavaliers finally chose to trade #Kyrie Irving. This season could be (will be?) LeBron James's a year ago in Cleveland and thus Thomas's health for the 2017-18 season becomes paramount.

And as you can see in the screen shot above and at the two teams' official online stores, this trade is pretty far down the road, so it's hard to imagine the entire thing being blown up over the Thomas physical. To build a championship roster, the Cavs traded draft picks and didn't have a first-round pick in 2016 and 2017.

He will be an unrestricted free agent in 2018. If the Cleveland Cavaliers ask for reasonable compensation for taking an injured Isaiah Thomas, it should be a mere formality that the Boston Celtics accept the terms.

An already shocking trade has become all the more complex.

Isaiah Thomas' health could potentially trigger a standoff between the Eastern Conference rivals. It's possible the Cavaliers believe Thomas will miss more games than Boston did. That would leave the team without its top two stars and just Crowder, Zizic and the Brooklyn pick as the return for Irving, plunging the Cavaliers into an uncertain future. That is enough for the Cavaliers to take a pause on the trade.
