At a community meeting following the arrests, hundreds of local residents allegedly confessed to eating human flesh purchased from one of the accused, reported News 24.
A police spokesperson said there is a high possibility that the young woman was not the first victim, and urged people whose relatives have disappeared in Estcourt to inform the police.
"He told them that digging up the graves would make them strong and protect them from harm and that bringing him the bones would bring them wealth in the future", Majola added.
"It was buried under big rocks and we had to call a TLB machine to remove the rocks". In the house one of them found a flower pot with human ears.
"It is alleged that the suspects raped, killed and cut up the body of a woman, which they then consumed". More body parts were found.
The provincial Occult-Related Crime Unit is now investigating the claims, Mbhele said. They admitted that they were waiting for the body parts to attract maggots.
