Likewise. Panneerselvam could not get a party post for another former minister Natham Viswanathan.

The cyclone prevailing in the sea of Tamil Nadu politics is now moving towards shore indicating an end to the problems finally.

Palaniswami too had said he was confident that "both the factions would merge soon". Panneerselvam's close aide K Pandiarajan was also sworn-in as Minister for Tamil Official Language and Tamil Culture.

Aug 17: Palaniswami announces a Commission of Inquiry to go into the death of J. Jayalalithaa, says her Poes Garden residence in Chennai will be turned into a memorial run by the government.

Panneerselvam, who was administered the oath by Governor Vidyasagar Rao at Raj Bhawan, will also be the AIADMK coordinator while Palaniswami will be the co-coordinator of the ruling party in Tamil Nadu.

OPS will also be the party convenor. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisami and former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam shook hands at a joint meeting at the party headquarters, ending six months of bickering.

She said that from day one Sasikala and TTV Dinakaran wanted the merger of the party and everybody to come together once again and added that now they have been sidelined.

However, actor Kamal Hassan has taken a dig at the merger saying that it amounts to fooling the people, media reported.

The compromise would be her ouster by the party's general council. Recognizing the split, Election Commission froze the party symbol.

"I congratulate Thiru O Panneerselvam & others who took oath today".

A confrontation between the two factions was seen before the merger.

The merger has come as a blow for the jailed party leader VK Sasikala and the AIADMK camp led by her nephew TTV Dhinakaran.

He thanked Chief Minister Palaniswami for initiating moves for the merger. He would, however, continue to be Chief Minister with OPS, who has been CM thrice, having to settle for being deputy. Sasikala's brother V Dhivakaran said the AIADMK government may not last the rest of its term.

The political situation in Tamil Nadu went off track after Jayalalithaa's death in December a year ago. "A positive result is expected in a day or two", he told reporters in Chennai.

"Both the factions of AIADMK have surrendered to the BJP". At present, the BJP and the Congress are two such groups which are more than the AIADMK in the House in the numbers. Also with AIADMK becoming a partner with NDA will further weaken the already weak opposition.
