The current Doomfist, Ogundimu, is the third person to hold the Doomfist title. Many fingers seem to point towards the heavily anticipated Doomfist with the latest tease coming from an update to the official Overwatch website revealing new story details. This backstory adds some intriguing context to the events leading up to the Numbani which have been teasing players since the announcement of the last hero Orisa.

The new Overwatch Doomfist news also appears to confirm that others might have escaped during the attack, while also confirming that Doomfist was back in action.

Blizzard released a faux news report on the Overwatch blog yesterday claiming that the character Reaper had sprung aka Akande Ogundimu (aka "Doomfist") from Helix Security International's classified maximum security installation within the in-game Overwatch lore.

So: Doomfist is free in the world of Overwatch and has his. um, doomfist to hand. That's a good thing because though Jeff from the Overwatch team has joked about another ridiculously long ARG to announce their next hero, he knows full well that nobody wants that even a little bit.

The report narrated that an unidentified aircraft approached the facility and passed through its defense systems without incident, most probably because the prison's technology was hacked by Sombra.

In describing the details of the attack, the post mentions "a black shadowy figure" who defeat's the prison guards handily with the injuries of those left dead "matching other incidents involving the mercenary known as the Reaper".

The previous in-game tie in with Doomfist was the destruction inside Numbani Airport, where players could see the OR15 defense robots completely destroyed.

Blizzard Entertainment has finally got around to hyping Doomfist, it's next big hero for Overwatch, after months of speculation.

Helix officials have been unwilling to reveal whether or not there were additional escapees or items taken from the facility, but sources have indicated that it is likely that there were further security breaches in addition to Ogundimu.

Here's hoping this isn't another teaser setting up a new hero who isn't Doomfist.
