The U.S. unemployment rate also ticked up over the month, to 4.4 percent from 4.3 percent.

Braun said. The year-over change, June 2016 to June 2017, shows an increase of 261,400 jobs (up 1.6 percent).
IL posted a small increase in nonfarm payroll jobs, gaining 8,600 jobs over the month.

Calhoun County had the lowest jobless rate in the region at 4.9 percent in June. "Despite a slight increase in unemployment, labor market fundamentals remain strong, with total year-over-year employment up 2 percent".
The largest job declines occurred in two sectors - manufacturing and professional and business services - which lost 2,400 positions each. While these areas experienced job gains, education and health services (-2,600), construction (-1,000) and financial activities (-500) saw job losses. Most of the growth was in professional and business services, leisure and hospitality, and government, according to preliminary estimates released Thursday by the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
The Island of Maui in Maui County recorded a 3.2% unemployment rate in June 2017, up from the 2.9% rate recorded in May, and slightly lower than the 3.4% rate reported past year. On the other side of that coin, unemployment rates of above 6% should make the search for workers easier. That's down from 9.5 percent past year.
