World leaders pledged Thursday to keep up the fight against global warming and urged Donald Trump to be part of that effort, hours before the USA president was due to announce whether he would pull out of the Paris climate accord.
The U.S. would be one of only three countries to not support the climate deal if Trump withdraws from it.
McKenna said she had urged USA officials to stay in the Paris deal, noting that 90 percent of the agreement remained to be negotiated.
The Trump administration may choose to exit the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
Quitting the Paris accord may not resonate with members of Trump's Republican Party as much as his administration expects.
During the G7 summit, Trudeau told Trump the world economy was already adjusting to climate change and the real issue was who should lead that process, said the source, who asked for anonymity given the sensitivity of the situation.

If Trump pulls the US out, it would join Nicaragua and Syria as the world's only countries not participating in the climate change deal.

But this option may not be the likely route, since two senior officials say Trump is expected to withdraw from the climate deal.
