World leaders pledged Thursday to keep up the fight against global warming and urged Donald Trump to be part of that effort, hours before the USA president was due to announce whether he would pull out of the Paris climate accord.

The U.S. would be one of only three countries to not support the climate deal if Trump withdraws from it.

McKenna said she had urged USA officials to stay in the Paris deal, noting that 90 percent of the agreement remained to be negotiated.

The Trump administration may choose to exit the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

If Trump pulls the US out, it would join Nicaragua and Syria as the world's only countries not participating in the climate change deal.

Musk indicated that he had been trying to persuade Trump to remain part of the climate agreement.

"We wish to work with the European Union to strengthen our communication and practical cooperation in climate change", Hua said.

His appeal suggested that if the United States, the world's biggest carbon emitter after China, was to quit the deal, the onus would be on other key players like China, India and the European Union to do more to fight global warming. It aims to keep average temperatures "well below" 2C, and to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases produced. Supporters of the accord say USA withdrawal would provide an opening for other countries such as China and Iran to back out of the deal, clouding any prospects for future global climate initiatives.

But this option may not be the likely route, since two senior officials say Trump is expected to withdraw from the climate deal.

Congressional concern brews over walking away from the Paris Climate Agreement.

Withdrawing would leave the U.S. as one of just three countries outside the agreement, with the other two being Syria and Nicaragua.

Along with China moving forward regardless Trump's decision, several companies in the United States will also be moving to more projects with renewable energy to save money regardless his point of view.
