Fleury among players exposed for Vegas NHL expansion draft

That means there will be some notable players the Blues - and the other 29 National Hockey League teams - have made available for Vegas to select, barring any trades made between the Golden Knights and such teams.

The Canes have 10 picks in the Entry Draft, so losing one to resolve the goalie situation would not be a huge hit.

The same argument applies to Martin, who still has two years with an average-annual salary of $4.85 million left on his contract.

"We looked at the lists and there were no surprises", McPhee told reporters on Sunday.

"It was a rigid market", Treliving said.

Nashville Predators forward James Neal and Anaheim Ducks defenseman Sami Vatanen also were left unprotected. Kuokkanen averaged slightly more than a point per game for London in juniors during the regular season before scoring 10 goals in the Knights' 14 post season games.

Any player with two years or less of professional experience (NHL or AHL) is exempt from the expansion draft. Forced to choose between 33-year-old Jimmy Howard, who's coming off a terrific season, and 25-year-old Petr Mrazek, who struggled in 2016-17, the Wings went with Howard.

Sabres' GM Jason Botterill is in ongoing talks with Vegas GM George McPhee, but the new man in charge in Buffalo still doesn't have a concrete idea regarding what will unfold during next week's expansion draft.

Golden Knights submit expansion draft picks by 10 a.m.to the NHL and NHL Players Association. Despite going nearly the entire 2016-17 season without a goal, the 25-year-old is a strong skater, a big body and a generally effective two-way center.

The NHL Awards Show in Las Vegas begins at 8 p.m. and the Golden Knights' draft picks will be announced during the telecast. Enstrom, who has spent 10 seasons playing for the Jets and Atlanta Thrashers, is heading into the final year of a contract that pays him $5.75 million and he's not producing almost as much offence as he was when he signed the deal. Youngsters Connor McDavid and Darnell Nurse don't meet the minimum pro experience criteria, so they're automatically protected and don't need to be exposed.

So, the Knights - who will be coached by fired Panthers coach Gerard Gallant - have a few options in the one Florida player it can select. They are expected to pursue a deal to move him for something leading into it. In doing so, they will be choosing to protect Tom Wilson over him. He's a restricted free agent, and Washington has already tendered him a qualifying offer, thus making him exposed in the expansion draft.

Hear Mike Zeisberger's take on the Stanley Cup Final and the upcoming National Hockey League expansion draft. Not to suggest the Penguins would go insane and over-spend on a free agent, but less Fleury the Penguins would have about $20 million in space under the now expected ~$75 million 2017-18 salary cap.

If the Golden Knights selected Ward, the Sharks would get rid of some dead weight in their forward group while Vegas would gain veteran leadership in what will likely be a young locker room.
