Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger's future to be decided on Tuesday

Perhaps if he'd made them an offer they couldn't refuse 12 months ago, he wouldn't have found himself ready to pay over the odds for them next season, and might even have had a more successful league finish this year (nor been branded friendless by Tony Adams).

The season started with Fàbregas at the front of the queue for the exit door; the season ends with many lamenting the fact that he did not start against Arsenal in the FA Cup final.

"I was delighted for him on Saturday", Adams said.

Could Wenger turn his back on Arsenal?

The Gunners sealed a 2-1 win over Chelsea at Wembley in the FA Cup final on Saturday evening, lifting the trophy for a record 13th time.

The BBC reported that this get together was not a formal board meeting, but a gathering at which Wenger's future will be discussed by the club's directors.

An announcement is expected on Wednesday or Thursday.

"I expect myself to perform at that level every single week", he said.

Chelsea was the clear favorite coming into the FA Cup final, but a poor start saw the league champion going down 1-0 in the fourth minute.

And yet Arsenal still ended the campaign with a cup victory that Wenger puts on a par with his last Premier League success in the unbeaten 2003-04 season. Amid changes within the club's management, Wenger will apparently manage to retain control over the coaching, picking the team and decision-making on transfers. Still, and much to the dismay of some, Arsenal is bringing back Arsene Wenger on a new two-year deal.

It's true, Mesut Ozil reads the Evening Standard.

Fifth-placed Arsenal finished 18 points behind Chelsea, with embarrassing defeats at Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion ruining their chances of staying in the top four.

The Gunners were eliminated from the Champions League for the seventh consecutive season in the last 16.

"Apart from give him 300 grand a week, because that's obscene". I know my mind.

"The lack of respect from some has been a disgrace and I will never accept that".

"We're committed to mounting a sustained league challenge and that will be our focus this summer and next season".

Wenger takes charge of Arsenal in 1996.
