Nintendo says Switch will help double profits

The game has sold 3.84 million units total worldwide, with 2.76 million of them on the Switch and the remaining 1.08 million on the Wii U.

At the same time, this demand spells good fortune for the Nintendo Switch and it likely influenced the company's estimation that it will sell roughly 10 million Switch units during its next fiscal year ending in April 2018. In fact, they are predicting that the console is going to sell another 10 million units by this time next year.

Nintendo expects 35 million copies of Switch games, including those from other publishers, to be sold in the 2017 fiscal year.

And because - unlike Sony and Microsoft - Nintendo relies on games and consoles for nearly all its sales, it is arguably more vulnerable to this trend.

As a result of strong Switch sales and smart financial investments, Nintendo's total profits skyrockted by 521%, and the company earned 102.5 billion yen ($922.5 million) in profits during FY 2017 (April 1, 2016 - March 31, 2017).

EA will release a scaled down version of Federation Internationale de Football Association 18 for the Nintendo Switch, but games like Star Wars: Battlefront 2 won't be coming to the console.

"Nintendo is focusing on the Switch now because the company is fundamentally a console maker", says Serkan Toto, an industry analyst based in Japan. Nevertheless, this became the worst selling console of Nintendo. It also represents Nintendo's comeback effort after the Wii U failed to generate the same kind of interest as the original Wii.

Sales of amiibo are also touched on, but Nintendo isn't too enthused. And during this Q&A session, Nintendo's president reassured everyone with a glimpse of what's next for the Switch.

In an earnings report released earlier today, Nintendo confirmed that the Pokemon franchise helped boost their 2016 revenue and profits. The immensely popular handheld has sold 7.27 million units this fiscal year, an increase of 7 percent. Doing this will net you 20% off select Nintendo Switch games. This title elicited a fantastic response from consumers worldwide.

So it seems that the Nintendo 3DS, as of now, is far from dead.

The projected Yen65 billion operating profit, if realized, would be the highest since the year ending March 2011. The company plans to release two or more games during this fiscal year, including an already announced "Animal Crossing" game.
